Fernando Gonzalez (Santiago of Chile) was born into a family of musicians. His great grandfather was a composer and conductor, his father a great guitarist and respected pedagogue, and his mother a musicology professor.

He is known as a guitarist; however, it was on the piano that he played his first scales. At the age of twelve, under the guidance of his father, he chose the guitar as the instrument with which he would forge his path through the world of music. ‘Classical music became my search for purity and perfection’, he says. He breathes through his guitar. He masters the sound of the instrument, and his technique allows him to express the most intimate feelings. He uses the ‘Torrès’ six string classical guitar.

Fernando Gonzalez studied at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, where he obtained the Premier Prix de Guitare. Afterwards, he was awarded the Premier Prix de Musique de Chambre and the Diplôme Supérieur de Guitare from the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp. He was a laureate of the Concours International of Namur, and was later awarded the prestigious Alex de Vries Prize.

In an innovative spirit, Fernando Gonzalez went on to record live the famous Concierto de Aranjuez with the Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra, a project for which he was personally congratulated by the composer Joaquín Rodrigo himself. In performance, he plays traditional pieces for guitar but also the most varied compositions. His repertoire stretches from renaissance to contemporary music, overcoming any technical and interpretative difficulties.

The guitar is considered exclusively as a solo instrument; however, he has always enjoyed performing with musical formations of any size: the Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra, the VRT Philharmonic Orchestra, the Flanders Opera Symphony Orchestra, I Fiamminghi, Gaggini Quartet, Soundtrack Symphonic, Undici Archi.

Beyond the Benelux, Fernando Gonzalez has played throughout Europe and across South America.

My idea is that there is music in the air, music all around us; the world is full of it,
and you simply take as much as you require.
