"Emiko Uchiyama and Vladimir Petrov " came into existence in the year 2007.
They had their debut at the International Marimba Duo Competition in Belgium, where they were awarded the first prize. They also secured themselves the audience prize, the prize for the best interpretation of a set-piece and were the recipients of the Keiko Abe prize.

They both took their first musical steps at the age of three. Meanwhile, they both look back on extensive musical careers in their respective home countries - Japan and Bulgaria - where they have been awarded numerous prizes at esteemed music competitions. Their musical activities have taken them to many major European cities as followed by concert engagements in the United States and Asia.
Emiko Uchiyama
Born in Japan in1983, Emiko Uchiyama began her musical studies at the age of three receiving tuition on marimba and piano.
From a very early age she appeared as a soloist with many orchestras including the Osaka Philharmonic, Hong-Kong Philharmonic, New Japan Philharmonic, Metropolitan Police and the Sapporo Symphony orchestras etc.
Her busy touring schedule has taken her to Germany, Austria, France, America, all major Japanese cities, Hong-Kong, and China where her solo recitals have been met with high critical acclaim.
In 2007, as a member of the Wave Duo, Ms Uchiyama received 1st Prize at the Universal Marimba Competition Belgium with her duo partner, Vladimir Petrov. The duo was also awarded the Sabam Prize for the best interpretation of a set piece, the Keiko Abe prize and the audience award. Ms Uchiyama also received the Keiko Abe prize and was a finalist at the 3rd World Marimba Competition Stuttgart in 2002, making her the only recipient of two Keiko Abe prizes in the world. In 2005 she won 3rd prize at the 4th World Marimba Competition Shanghai.
In 2006, Emiko Uchiyama was invited by the Percussive Arts Society to perform alongside the world’s leading marimba performer and composer, Keiko Abe, at PASIC -the society’s annual convention.
Ms Uchiyama has started to study with Keiko Abe at the age of ten. She graduated at the top of her class in 2006 at the revered Toho-Gakuen College of Music. She is continuing her studies with the world-renowned marimba soloist Bogdan Bacanu. She also studied with the master marimbist Yoshihisa Mizuno.
In addition to her performance activites with the Wave Duo, Emiko Uchiyama is also a member of the Quintet Corona and the Marimba Ensemble Cadendia.
Vladimir Petrov was born in Bulgaria in 1986 and began studing percussion at the age of nine. He has performed with many orchestras such as the Opera-Philharmonic Society Ruse, Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra and was solo timpanist of the Junior Philharmonic Orchestra “Emil Chakarov”. He has resided in Linz, Upper Austria since 2006 and has had the opportunity to perform with Bruckner Orchestra Linz as well as the Johan Strauss Ensemble as a percussionist.
Vladimir Petrov’s extensive touring has enabled him to play both as a marimba and percussion soloist in Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Japan and China.
In 1999 Mr Petrov was the recipient of the 1st prize at the international Competition for Percussion Instruments “Pendim”, Bulgaria. Two years later, at that same competition, he again received 1st prize as a soloist and was awarded a future 1st prize as a member of the ensemble ”Accent”. In the 2000 edition of the “Young Music Talents” in Sofia, Bulgaria he was the 1st prize winner in the Percussion Competition ”Pendim” he was awarded the “Best Marimba Performance” prize.

After studying jazz drum-set and vibraphone with Hristo Yocov and percussion instrumnents with Simeon Serafimov at the National Music Academy “Pantcho Vladigerov” in Sofia, Bulgaria. Vladimir Petrov moved to Linz, Austria to study at the Bruckner Private University where he now receives percussion tuition from Prof. Leonhard Schmidinger (solo timpanist of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz) as well as marimba tuition from Prof. Bogdan Bacanu.
As well as the Wave Duo, Mr Petrov performs with the percussion ensemble “Accent” and the jazz formation “Eleven”.
