Birgit Ramsl was born in Krems (Austria), in 1980. She studied flute with Professor Wolfgang Schulz and Professor Barbara Gisler-Haase at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna, gaining her diplomas for solo flute and for instrumental pedagogy with honour. Additionally, she completed successfully a two year masterclass-study with Professor Ándras Ádorjan at the Academy of Music in Munich. In 2004, even before finishing her studies, she became the principal flute player in the orchestra of the Volksoper Wien.

She got important artistic inspiration at the master-classes of Aurèle Nicolet, Emmanuel Pahud (Accademia Chigiana), Pierre-Yves Artaud, János Bálint and Michael Martin Kofler.

She was a stipendiary of the Tokyo Foundation, of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation “Live Music Now” and of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (soloflute under Pierre Boulez and Ingo Metzmacher) and is winner of many national and international competitions. She won “Jugend musiziert” (an Austrian young artist competition) with Special prize in 1996, “Gradus ad Parnassum” (Austria’s most honoured competition) with Special prize in 2000 and the “Mozartpreis Wiesbaden 2004” (Germany) of the international foundation of the Mozarteum Salzburg.
She was Prize winner at the international music competition “Pacem in Terris” Bayreuth (Germany) in 2001 and at the international flute competition “Jean-Pierre Rampal” Paris (France) in 2005.

For her brilliant achievements the mayor of Krems awarded her the Silver medal of the city of Krems.
She played solo concerts with the Niederösterreichische Tonkuenstler Orchester, Philharmonia Wien, Ensemble orchestral de Paris, Hofer Symphoniker, Camerata Hamburg, Philharmonic Brasov, Chamber Orchestra Tokyo and Hongkong-Academy Orchestra.

Besides numerous recitals with piano, including performances at the organisation for young artists “Musica Juventutis” in the Wiener Konzerthaus, at the “Stadtinitiative Wien” and in the “Bösendorfer Saal”, she is in a great demand playing chamber music and cofounder of the “triopartout” (flute, viola, harp). She is a member of “exxj” (ensemble 20th century), “Theophil Ensemble Wien”, “Salzburg Orchester Solisten” and played chamber music concerts at the festivals “Latinoamericano de Musica” Caracas, “Carinthischer Sommer” and “Murten Classics”, “Halbturner Schlosskonzerte”, “Attersee Klassik” and “Internationale Musikwochen Millstatt”.

My idea is that there is music in the air, music all around us; the world is full of it,
and you simply take as much as you require.
