(c) Rainer Stegmann
Rainer Stegmann was born in Mainhausen-Mainflingen near Aschaffenburg, Germany, and began playing the guitar as a 12-year-old. In his youth he concentrated on Rock and Jazz as well as classical music, but after completing his secondary schooling dedicated himself completely to classical guitar. He studied in Frankfurt am Main at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst and at Dr.-Hoch´s Konservatorium. He was especially influenced by participation in master classes given by the Assad Duo and Manuel Barrueco.
In addition to his activity as a teacher, Rainer Stegmann pursues an intensive active career as a performing artist and has been appearing in concert and recital with various chamber music ensembles (among others with violin, flute, piano and string quartet) as well as with orchestras since his student days. His musical focus lies on the area of the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. For many years he has concentrated specifically on the music of composers such as Leo Brouwer and Toru Takemitsu, and has set himself the task of performing their highly captivating works both for solo guitar and for guitar and orchestra as often as possible. An example is his CD "Soundscapes" (Genuin 88527; 2008) received enthusiastically by music lovers and experts.
