David Seidel was born on the 18th of May,1976 in Salzburg into a musical family.

His first musical experience was at the age of seven when he began to learn the violin.At the age of nine he began piano lessons and after three years took part in his first competition.He subsequently enrolled in the Mozarteum Hochschule in Salzburg. There he met his first bassoon teacher,Milan Turkovic,with whom he began lessons at the age or thirteen.After several years of continuing his studies with Yoshinori Tominaga,he began his official studies with Richard Geller at the Mozarteum. During this time he took part in several Masterclasses with artists such as Sergio Azzolini and Klaus Thunemann.

While still a student David Seidel was successful in many competitions including Second Prize ,”Gradus ad Parnassum” in Vienna in 1996 , First Prize ,”Gradus ad Parnassum” in Salzburg in 1998 and was also awarded the “Anton Bruckner Encouragement Prize” of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

In the same year he was appointed the position of First Bassoon in the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra RSO-Wien and since 1999 has held the position of Solo Bassoon.

He has performed with the orchestra in many parts of the world including Japan, USA, South America and China, and has also performed several times as soloist with the orchestra. David Seidel has built up a successful career as a versatile soloist and chamber musician. He has performed as soloist in Vienna, Salzburg, Linz and Feldkirch, also in Switzerland, France and Poland. He has been accompanied by the RSO Wien (conducted by Dennis Russel Davies), the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Salzburg Kammerphilharmonie, Lubliner Philharmonie to name a few.

He has performed in chamber music ensembles with musicians such as Milan Turkovic, Richard Galler, Gerald Pachinger, Günter Passin,Bernhard Heinrichs and Erwin Klambauer. David Seidel also works with various other ensembles such as “die reihe” die reihe, Österreichische Kammersymphoniker and Kontrapunkte. Despite his young age he has conducted a Masterclass for Bassoon since 1999 which, since 2001 has taken place as part of the “Kulturtreffpunkt Kumberg” near Graz.Kulturtreffpunkt Kumberg.

Some of David Seidel’s most important recent projects include his debut as soloist with the RSO Wien in February 2001,performing the Austrian Premiere of Andre Jolivet’s Bassoon Concerto,conducted by Stefan Sanderling.In May 2001 he featured in a radio program on Radio Österreich (Ö1) which was in the form of an interview and musical portrait.

Shortly after this,together with Richard Galler,Martin Machovits and Alois Tschiggerl, he performed the Austrian Premiere of the Concerto for 4 bassoons and orchestra “Hell’s Angels” by Michael Daugherty in the Vienna Konzerthaus, with the RSO Wien conducted by Dennis Russel Davies.
